LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — One local restaurant is showing its appreciation for medical professionals on the front-line.
El Dorado Cantina in Tivoli Village put together 100 lunches to drop off to medical personnel on Thursday.
The restaurant received help assembling from two familiar faces including comedian Eddie Griffin and former National Basketball Association (NBA) and University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) player Marcus Banks.
“We want to give them a good, healthy meal from El Dorado and just help out,” Griffin said.
The two pandemic volunteers loaded up tacos bound for Mountain View Hospital.
“It’s definitely something that’s mandatory. It’s something that’s needed. I’m sure the people out there appreciate it. It’s much more in the world that’s going on now instead of just sports. Right now, the city needs us,” Banks said. “It’s community work and I very much enjoy it.”
Griffin was also happy to help.
“If this meal can put a little glow in their life, a little light in their life, then I’m all for it,” Griffin said.
The Tivoli Village restaurant recently launched a program called, Feeding the Front Line, to deliver food to local hospitals once a week.
The coronavirus has affected Las Vegas as it has the world, and Griffin joked about missing one of the city’s signatures – the lights.
“I thought I’d never see the lights go out in Vegas. The lights are out. At least light it up, so we can get a sign of Vegas,” Griffin said.
However, he believes Vegas Strong will beat this crisis.
“I think Vegas is going to come back really big, really strong,” he said.
“We’re going to stay together, keep the community strong and we’re going to hold it down,” Banks said.
The restaurant plans to pack lunches for Southern Hills Hospital on Monday, April 13.
They plan to keep doing this throughout the pandemic.
